Boutique Shopping & Small-Town Charm

Some of the best afternoons on Lake Conroe happen on dry land. A few miles from Sunset Shores, two charming downtowns make for an easy half-day of browsing, antiquing, and good coffee.
Historic Downtown Montgomery
About 15 miles west via Highway 105 — roughly ten minutes from the lake — historic Montgomery is one of the oldest towns in Texas. Founded as a trading post in 1826 and known as the birthplace of the Texas flag, its tree-lined square is anchored by an 1890s courthouse and lined with boutiques, antique shops, handcrafted goods, wine-tasting rooms, and cozy cafés.
Downtown Conroe
A little farther east, downtown Conroe pairs restored brick storefronts with antique malls like Mimi's on Main — more than twenty dealers of antiques, vintage finds, furniture, and gifts — alongside restaurants and a historic theater.
Easy to reach
Both make a great rainy-day plan or a relaxed afternoon out, and you'll be back at your site in time to watch the sun go down over the water.
